Kalifah AgaNaga shares his thoughts on Bebe Cool's ambition to break into the global music scene, suggesting that timing may not be on his side anymore.
Last year, Bebe Cool dropped an album titled Break The Chains, which aimed to expand his reach beyond Uganda's borders. However, Kalifah believes that the current market might not fully appreciate the veteran artist due to his extensive presence in the industry.
The current generation of music lovers might not give Bebe Cool the recognition he deserves because they're familiar with his work. He was part of the era when collaborations with 2Face and D’Banj were crucial, but those opportunities slipped through his fingers.
The window for Bebe Cool to break into the international market through strategic partnerships was limited. He needed to partner with artists dominating the African and continental scene at that time to increase his visibility.
Despite his criticism, Kalifah understands Bebe Cool's situation within the context of the industry back then. Financial limitations and lack of access likely influenced his career decisions.
It's possible that Bebe Cool didn't have the resources to invest in his music back then. Without connections, he struggled to tap into new opportunities.
The music industry infrastructure in Uganda was still developing at that time, limiting exposure to international platforms and opportunities.
To remain relevant, Kalifah believes Bebe Cool should focus on consistency rather than pursuing a global breakthrough. Consistent releases can help him stay visible in the industry.
"The key is to keep releasing new music," Kalifah advises.
