The German Innovation Institute for Sustainability and Digitalization recently honored Xsabo Group for its significant contributions to the growth of Uganda's solar sector.

This recognition comes at a time when the group is expanding its footprint in grid-connected solar power, with two operational plants currently providing renewable energy.

The Kabulasoke plant, located in Gomba district and commissioned in 2019, spans an area of 131 acres, boasting an investment of over $20 million and generating approximately 20MW of electricity.

Walter Muhindo, the site manager of the Kabulasoke plant, noted that the solar power plant operates consistently throughout the year, with varying power output influenced by weather conditions but consistently meeting projected targets.

“The remote monitoring systems in place enable engineers to track generation in real-time, allowing them to respond quickly to any technical issues and ensure a stable supply of electricity to the grid,” Muhindo added.

Last year's March commissioning of the second grid-connected solar plant in Nkonge, Mubende district, also generated 20MW of electricity, further solidifying Xsabo Group's commitment to renewable energy.

David Alobo, the founder and managing director of Xsabo Group, expressed gratitude for the award, stating that it serves as a testament to those who have supported the company throughout its journey.

"The award will enhance our brand visibility among partners, customers, and future generations while reinforcing the motivation and long-term loyalty of our staff and stakeholders," Alobo said.

Alobo revealed plans to develop additional grid-scale solar power plants in districts such as Lira, Soroti, Kasese, and Adjumani, with proposed projects at various stages of planning and regulatory approval underway.

"Currently, we have delivered 40MW to the national grid, but our ambition is to significantly scale up production," Alobo stated.

For Lira, Xsabo Group aims to develop a 50MW solar power plant, while Soroti and Kasese are expected to contribute between 20MW and 30MW, pending approval from the Electricity Regulatory Authority.

The group is also in negotiations for a proposed 30MW solar plant in Adjumani.
